Once again I was taken in by a great cover. The story description was interesting. Big mistake. I know these books are fantasy but I want them to be somewhat realistic. Disliked every character. Too much emphasis and time spent in detail on their riches. Atticus referring to himself as King. A serious turnoff. He was totally unappealing. I love alpha men -mafia MC- my favorites. It would take more than millions of dollars and good bedroom skills to make that man desirable. Ophelia was described as an intelligent educated young woman. Obviously her degree was not in common sense. Her only attraction to this one night stand was their sexual chemistry. She entered into a ridiculous contact and excluded any intimate relationship. Nothing in this story or these characters kept my interest. There is no way I could finish a 400 page book where I was constantly saying Really? Ophelia is a waitress, having given up on what she got her degree in, when she meets Atticus. With a few seductive words, he lures her in for a night of passion, the kind that leaves one wanting for more, but despite his promise to call her again, he never does. Imagine her surprise when he walks back into her life a month later, not to return as her lover, but as a customer at the restaurant she works at. A year later, after no hint of romantic interest despite his twice weekly lunches at the restaurant, he presents her with a contract, be his wife, have his child, and in five years she will have earned a divorce and ten million dollars. With a steady hand and only a hint of suspicion, she signs away. Quickly, she is whisked away into the world of the elite to bask in the oppressive limelight and delight in the cold shoulder of her fiance, a man she has only known intimately. Quickly, she discovers having a powerful man as her fiance isn't as freeing as she had thought. This book received two stars due to the last twenty five percent of the book. Unnecessary conflict, the author adding annoying twists and trying to be clever did not endear me to her characters. I was rolling my eyes and having to physically walk away from the story. It's just so annoying. Ophelia's a flight risk, and just runs every ten seconds, whining and whimpering, as Atticus thinks about his feelings for her without physically stating them.Spoilers:He has to be shot to tell her he loves her. Lame. I rolled my eyes and said "I'm done with this" after that. If you read this book, be sure to be ready to walk away from the story multiple times from the outrageous plot turns.
